Net worth

Claimed: "over $30 million" at the "World Bank." Found by a federal court in Boise on Aug. 27, from his own sworn financial affidavit: "financially unable to retain counsel." He has a public defender. The expedited account did not come through in time.

Injury report

Broken and dislocated pinky. Caused him to fail the "physical portion" of NFL waivers, which he explained also have mental and emotional portions. They do not.

None. "Nomadic." Six states in the weeks before arrest, hotel to Airbnb to hotel. Airbnbs were presented to guests as his homes, furnished with empty Louis Vuitton luggage.

Co-defendant

Taylor Jamie Chan, 18, "financial advisor." Was approximately 14 when the scheme allegedly began in February 2022. Released pending trial. First Oregon appearance Sept. 3, 2026, a week earlier than first announced; waived a preliminary hearing. Arraignment Oct. 1. Court-appointed lawyer: C. Renee Manes.

Charges

Conspiracy to commit wire fraud (18 U.S.C. § 1349) and wire fraud (18 U.S.C. § 1343). 26 identified victims across OR, WA and CA per the affidavit, plus ID per the DOJ, about $1.3M. On Sept. 18 the FBI said 35 more women had come forward, which would put the total above 60; it is still verifying them. The government's own estimate of his sentencing range if convicted: 46 to 57 months. Maximum: 20 years per count.

Status

Arrested Aug. 24, 2026 at Boise Airport, in 49ers apparel. He was waiting for Chan's flight in a white Corvette. A 49ers helmet was recovered from the Airbnb. Held in federal custody: on Aug. 27 an Idaho judge found a detention hearing was warranted and left it to Oregon. Still in Idaho as of Sept. 21, per The Oregonian; first Oregon appearance expected in October. No indictment on the public docket as of Sept. 23.

• 2020Sued in Sacramento County small claims for $4,900 in unpaid loans, including $3,700 "for work on a Dodge vehicle." The McLaren era had not yet begun. TMZ
• 2021Sued again in Sacramento small claims, about $10,000. Plaintiff filed against "Jonathan Love" before learning his actual name. Judgment entered. TMZ
• June 2021A Bay Area woman gets an Instagram DM from a Swiss investor. His family moved from Switzerland to Los Angeles when he was eight, he studied finance at St. John's, and he moved to Sacramento to open a Balenciaga store in downtown San Francisco, more than 80 miles away. USA Today
• February 2022Per the FBI, the conspiracy begins. Love meets a woman on Facebook Dating and within days tells her to invest $10,000 with his financial advisor. His financial advisor is in middle school.
• January 2023The Trilogy is filmed: three videos in a 49ers jacket explaining how he got into football, what his family does, and a house tour with a $200,000 safe. He goes on to share them approximately 185 times. Same month: a $250,000 McLaren is leased using a fake payroll stub showing a girlfriend earning $50,000 a month.
• 2023–2025Hinge. Bumble. Tinder. Facebook Dating. A 49ers helmet lives in the car. Custom helmets are ordered from Green Gridiron. Prop money is ordered from Prop Money Inc. Followers are ordered from Useviral and Buzzoid. Fake Bank Account Pro is downloaded.
• January 2024Love texts Chan asking him to create a screenshot of an account showing $3.4 million. February: an $11 million stock account, please.
• August 2024An anonymous Instagram account starts collecting victim testimonies and pointing people to ic3.gov. Same month, one victim DMs another on Instagram to warn her. The woman she warned goes to a lawyer.
• August 2024That woman, 22, from Vancouver, Wash., "M.F." in the court papers, had matched with him on Bumble. He said he was 24 and in Oregon scouting real estate. Gold "4-4-4" chain, a bright-green sports car wrapped in "sponsor" logos including Chevron and his own Instagram handle, practice "at the Nike campus," and a teenager introduced as Bob, his personal assistant. She tried on the helmet in the parking lot: "really heavy." Then his wallet and ID were stolen and he needed $9,000. She lost $18,000, some of it borrowed, and messaged the NFL's Instagram to warn the league. No reply. The Oregonian
• September 2024Her lawyer sets up a meeting with the FBI and federal prosecutors in Portland. The FBI opens the case on Sept. 30, 2024. The arrest is 23 months away. The Oregonian ESPN
• Late 2024OutKick receives the signing-day video and declines to publish it because it cannot be verified. Correct call.
• January – April 2025A 24-year-old Eugene real-estate agent reports him to the FBI (January), starts a Facebook group called "Victims of Jon Love" (February), and sues him in Oregon small claims for $10,000 (March). With no address to serve him at, she runs a notice in Eugene Weekly for four weeks and asks to serve him over Instagram and text. Her filing: he "purposefully stays in hotels & Airbnbs to evade justice." Per TMZ, she was awarded just over $10,000. ESPN TMZ
• May 14, 2025A Reddit thread titled "Daejon Love Scammer" is posted to r/oregon, and another to r/ScammerPayback. Fifteen months before the arrest. 25 upvotes.
• May 2025An FBI confidential source matches with "Avril Lyto Love" on a dating app. He drives nice cars and stays in nice hotels. She has questions. He does not have answers. She calls the FBI.
• June 2025The FBI source receives the "expedited account" voice memo and a screenshot of a text from "Financial Advisor." The FBI later finds Love wrote that text himself and had Chan send it back to his other phone.
• November 2025A "Super Bowl" highlight goes up on his Instagram the week of Nov. 6, celebrating the 49ers' trip to Super Bowl LVIII, 21 months after it was played. Same month, on Hinge, he tells a Manteca woman he played for the 49ers in 2011 and 2012. She asks a friend who was on that team. Blocked. SFGate SF Chronicle
• December 20, 2025The Eugene woman fills out the complaint form on the 49ers' website, names him, says a federal investigation is under way, and asks the team to be "proactive in denouncing his involvement on your team." On Dec. 27 a Levi's Stadium guest-services account replies that the team takes impersonation "very seriously" and cannot comment on "ongoing investigations or specific individuals." ESPN
• January 2026Investigators Google "daejon love 49ers." Google, citing his own LinkedIn ("Reciever at National Football League"), suggests he is a 49er. The affidavit notes AI summaries did the same.
• March 2026FBI screenshots Instagram @2bcontinued_4: 14 posts, 6,732 followers, highlight reels titled "NFL Journey," "Free Agency," "Super Bowl," and "Year 1."
• May 2026Search warrant served on the iCloud accounts. Everything is in there.
• July 15 – August 24, 2026New Mexico, California, Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Idaho. Six states, no address, hotel to Airbnb, per the detention memo.
• August 17, 2026Sealed criminal complaint signed by Magistrate Judge Jolie Russo in Portland.
• August 24, 2026Arrested by the FBI at Boise Airport wearing 49ers apparel. Chan, who flew in from California, was arrested the same day. His girlfriend of the moment had left the Airbnb 30 minutes earlier and did not know why he needed to fly so urgently. He was waiting for Chan's flight in a white Corvette; TMZ later got the video. The same day, Magistrate Judge Stacie Beckerman unsealed the case. TMZ Docket
• August 26–28DOJ press release. The internet receives the news like a Super Bowl.
• August 27Chan released pending trial. Conditions: surrender passport, no dating apps, no social media, no internet device without Pretrial Services permission, one phone. No contact with victims. The government never asked to hold him.
• August 27Love's turn, 1:11 to 1:41 p.m., before Magistrate Judge Debora K. Grasham in Boise. He waives his Idaho hearings. The judge finds a detention hearing warranted and leaves the hearing itself to Oregon, finds him "financially unable to retain counsel," appoints the Federal Defender, and commits him to the Marshals. The prosecutors' motion that week says he recently told one victim he could "make her disappear" and was "actively defrauding three more victims in Idaho" when arrested. • August 28Barstool: "What an off-season for the Niners." Ochocinco: "We gotta get Daejon Love on Nightcap." "Wide Deceiver" is coined somewhere on X and never leaves.
• August 29Chargers LB Daiyan Henley recreates the beach workout: "Believe it or not I'm in the NFL." 5.7 million views. The 49ers' receivers coach photoshops him into practice. The Guardians put him in their lineup. The FBI posts a tip line.
• August 30Cutdown day. Two beat writers report him among the cuts. A new video surfaces in which he says he was traded to the Rams. A photo surfaces of 49ers fans posing with him at a Dave & Buster's.
• August 31Rookie De'Zhaun Stribling switches to No. 7. Pardon My Take, Portnoy, Sharpe, LeSean McCoy and Stephen Jackson all weigh in. Defector calls him "a scammer for the ages."
• September 1Mugshot released. Haliburton marvels at the digital footprint. The real DaeJohn Love does a TMZ interview. A "Wide Deceiver" T-shirt sells out.
• September 2Tyreek Hill, one of the three NFL friends, finally responds on TikTok: "my boy," who "ran like a 4.2." The Kelces break down the route on New Heights. Jason: "We got to be smarter, women." The Portland date tells TMZ he asked other diners if he could move their plants, a Swiss custom. Complex The Big Lead
• September 3Chan's first appearance in Portland, a week before the Sept. 10 date the U.S. Attorney's Office gave out the day before. He waives a preliminary hearing and stays free on tighter conditions. Arraignment set for Oct. 1. • September 18The FBI holds a news conference in Portland. Special Agent in Charge Douglas Olson: 35 more women have come forward, which would make it more than 60; the Bureau is still verifying them. The scheme was "bespoke": current player, former player, injured reserve. He calls the victim-blaming "unjust" and "harmful." Largest single loss in the affidavit: A.T., $87,500 (¶¶ 32–36), including $45,000 into the "expedited account" and $30,000 to get out of the McLaren lease. Follow the Helmet Exhibit H • Equipment

He is not on the 49ers, but the helmet is real: $1,160 and change at Green Gridiron, a store that sells them to anyone with a card. Then he brought it to the beach, the car, a burger place, a hat store and the hair salon. When The Athletic's beat writer "reported" his release, the follow-up was: "He was told to bring his playbook and helmet." Eighteen sightings are on the record. Ten photos are below.
